Privacy Policy
Your privacy matters to us
We built CostKit to help you run your food business better — not to collect your data. Here's exactly what we do and don't do with your information.
Last updated: October 2026
1. Introduction
CostKit ("we", "our", or "us") is a food-cost management application for chefs, restaurant owners, caterers, and food entrepreneurs. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our mobile application and website (collectively, the "Service"). By using CostKit you agree to the practices described in this policy. If you do not agree, please stop using the Service.
2. Information We Collect
We collect only what is necessary to provide the Service: • Account data — your name, email address, and the password you choose (stored as a secure hash, never in plain text). • Profile data — optional details such as your city, business role, and country/currency preference. • Content you create — recipes, ingredients, market price lists, menus, costing runs, staff records, and overhead entries. • Usage data — when you open the app, which screens you view, and actions such as adding an ingredient or saving a costing, plus error reports with email addresses removed. These events are linked to your account so we can fix problems and improve CostKit. We never sell them or use them for advertising. • Device information — operating system type and version, for diagnosing crashes and compatibility issues. • Messages you send us — if you use the contact form on costkit.org, we keep your name, email address and message so we can reply. Ask us and we will delete them. We do not collect payment card numbers; billing is handled by third-party payment processors under their own privacy policies.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to: • Provide, maintain, and improve the Service. • Authenticate you and keep your account secure. • Store and sync your recipes, costings, and business data across your devices. • Estimate typical market price ranges. We may combine the ingredient prices you save, anonymously, with prices other users in the same city save. A range is only shown when enough different people have priced the same item, and no one can see your individual prices. • Respond to support requests and feedback you send us. • Send important account notices (e.g. password reset, policy changes). We do not send marketing emails unless you explicitly opt in.
4. Data Storage & Security
Your data is stored on secure cloud infrastructure with encryption at rest and in transit. We apply industry-standard access controls so that only you can read or modify your own data — other users cannot access your recipes, costings, or any other content. No security system is 100% impenetrable, but we take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your information and review our practices regularly.
5. Sharing of Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to any third party. We may share limited data only in the following circumstances: • With service providers we engage to operate the Service (e.g. cloud infrastructure providers), under confidentiality agreements that restrict them from using your data for any other purpose. • If required by applicable law, regulation, or a valid court order. • In the event of a merger or acquisition, in which case we will notify you before your data is transferred.
6. Your Rights
You have the right to: • Access the personal data we hold about you. • Correct inaccurate information via the Profile section in app Settings. • Delete your account and all associated data at any time — go to Settings → Delete Account. Deletion is permanent and irreversible. See Delete your account for exactly what is removed. • Withdraw consent for optional processing at any time. To exercise any of these rights, or if you have questions about your data, contact us at costkit.ng@gmail.com.
7. Children
CostKit is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you via the app or email. Continued use of the Service after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
9. Contact Us
If you have questions, concerns, or requests regarding this Privacy Policy or your personal data, please reach out: Email: costkit.ng@gmail.com We aim to respond to all privacy-related enquiries within 5 business days.
